BarCamp Ottawa Begins
![]()
BarCamp Ottawa is officially under way. I arrived at the BitHeads offices at 8:30am, downed a few cups of coffee and am now sitting in the main theatre listening to the intro being given by Alec Saunders. I'd say the attendance is somewhere around 50-60 people, really nice to see such a solid turnout. Hopefully this is just the first of many more tech community events in the nation's capital.
Now I just need to figure out what sessions to attend. I was a little disappointed that no session on blogging was initially on the docket and fellow Ottawa-blogger David Peralty and I didn't get our act together fast enough to organize one.
So the choices for the first session of the day are; "Aspect Oriented Programming", or "How To Give A Great Demo". David just showed up, and the two of us are going to sit in on the 'demo' session being given by Alec Saunders and Howard Thaw. The session was focused on Iotum's entry in the Demo2006 competition. The big lesson learned from this session; focus on the product. A good demo is not about your company, it's not about you, it's all about your product. Communicate the coolness of your product in an engaging way and demonstrate how easy it is to use.
My intention was to live-blog each session as I attended them, however it just didn't work out that way. Too many great people to meet and chat with, I just never got into the live-blogging flow. That's not really a bad thing :-)
