dailypixel Network :: Update

We've Been Snook'd

When Dailypixel launched its first blog just over a year ago, it was pretty clear that over time the network would eventually require a central 'hub' type site to bring together all of the websites within the network.

With some new launches on the horizon and more people getting involved, a couple of months ago I decided the time had arrived to actively pursue a redesign of the Dailypixel site. It was around this time that I had met Canadian web design guru Jonathan Snook at a tech event here in Ottawa. Not only is Jon a super great guy, but he is also an uber design talent who was a pleasure to work with every step of the way. Note to businesses; if you have a web development project that needs a designer's Midas touch, don't walk, run over to Snook.ca and see if he's available. You should only be so lucky.

To say I'm pleased with the end result is an understatement. I hope you like it too! This just gets me even more excited about where Dailypixel is going as we get closer to seriously growing the footprint of this network in the coming weeks and months.

So a big thank-you to Mr. Snook, and thanks to the Dailypixel team, readers and behind-the-scenes folk who continue to be part of our evolving journey.

One final thought...you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Note: Some URLs and pages on the site are still a WIP. Its hard to move furniture around and not break a few things. Everything should be worked out within the next few days.

    Jonathan does nice work. One thing though - you need to set the background default color, unless you intended the site to have the same pumpkin colour I use for testing websites as a background. ;-)

    Yes, Jonathan is a fantastic designer and developer and I love his work.

    @ Milner: I hear this type of comment alot and tend to shy away from setting a default background color because I figure that if the user went to the trouble of changing their default stylesheet, they probably had a reason to do so.

    It can go both ways, but I don't like forcing anything if I don't have to :)

    Well if they are using a custom local stylesheet the page won't override it. But if they don't have a custom local stylesheet, and don't have white set as the default background colour in their browser (and a lot of folks leave the pale grey) then a design that has inteded a white background can't rely on that being set to white. The user always has the option of setting their browser to override the site styles/colours so there is no forcing involved.

    It's not a big deal, and you're in good company from my browsing with an odd background colour set, including some fortune 500's and the blogs of some really good designers ;-)

    psssssssst - the comment preview page is still pumpkin *chuckle* ;-p

    Nice to see a Canadian network growing !

    Just stumbled upon the site, is there a link/image of the pre-Snook site available?
